EMDR Therapy Intensives in Fort Collins, CO

Therapy Intensives Available In Person in Fort Collins and Online Throughout Colorado

A therapy intensive is an immersive therapy experience that takes place in a shortened time period, so that you can experience rapid healing and change in days to weeks instead of months or years.

What can a therapy intensive treat?

  • Anxiety & depression
  • PTSD & Complex Trauma (C-PTSD)
  • Childhood trauma & attachment wounds
  • Panic attacks & phobias
  • Recent traumatic events
    • EMDR intensives can help you avoid developing PTSD
  • Relational or family conflict
  • Grief & loss
    • Recent or past grief
  • Low self-esteem or feelings of unworthiness

Why should I consider an intensive?

  • If you are overwhelmed by your symptoms
    • An intensive is a more focused approach to therapy, that allows you to experience accelerated healing. In many cases, you can achieve in one session what could take months to achieve in traditional weekly sessions. In an intensive, you can do a deep dive into your difficulties, experience more breakthroughs, and get relief from symptoms more quickly.
  • If you have a busy schedule
    • Therapy intensives offer flexibility. Instead of having to block off a recurring appointment on your schedule week after week, you have the convenience of scheduling all of your treatment into one day of concentrated therapy. This reduces logistical challenges while still giving you access to the benefits of therapy.
  • If you want to reduce time and money spent on treatment
    • Traditional therapy can take a long time, and the cost of those sessions over months or years can add up. An intensive is a cost-effective solution; the price is higher upfront, but it saves you money in the long-term by eliminating the need to pay for ongoing sessions month after month.

Therapy Modalities for Intensives

The intensives I offer utilize Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) at their core. I also interweave Internal Family Systems (IFS) parts work, somatic movement, Polyvagal theory and nervous system work, and mindfulness practices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Many clients benefit from EMDR intensives as an adjunct to individual therapy. Getting stuck in traditional therapy, due to past trauma, deeply held negative beliefs, or overwhelming symptoms, is a common problem. An EMDR intensive can help you get “un-stuck,” and make progress faster, so you can return to your existing therapist and resume therapy with a renewed mind and body.

  • An intensive is a special, focused time for deep healing and accelerated growth, and involves 2 to 4 hours of extended one-on-one therapy.
  • First, we will schedule a 15-minute phone consult to determine if an intensive is the right option for you. If you’re a good fit, we will then schedule a 90-minute pre-intensive intake session. This pre-intensive intake session will take place one to two weeks before the intensive itself; we’ll use the time to determine your goals and intentions for the intensive experience, as well as equip you with ways to prepare.
  • In your preparation, you may utilize a customizable online workbook to help you reflect on your intentions and set goals. Through the workbook, you can engage in self-reflection exercises and journal prompts. This prep work can help you make the most out of your intensive experience.
  • Next comes the 3-hour intensive session, focusing on EMDR and incorporating other modalities as needed. We’ll start by regulating your nervous system and setting up your processing targets. Then we’ll engage in EMDR to process the memory or target. Sessions are personalized to your needs and goals.
  • One to two weeks after the intensive, we’ll schedule a 90-minute post-intensive session. Here, we’ll debrief the whole experience, review your progress, and make a plan for how you can continue your healing journey.

Some clients return to their lives after a therapy intensive ready to move forward, live out their healing, and solidify changes. Others benefit from an ongoing relationship with a therapist as they implement the gains they made during their intensive. Ongoing therapy can look like an initial break followed by another intensive, or monthly check-ins, or regular weekly sessions. It all depends on what feels right to you; it’s completely your decision. You can also discuss it with your therapist, if you have one.

Research has consistently demonstrated that intensive therapy work is just as effective—and can even be more effective—than traditional weekly therapy.

Intensives are a specialized form of treat, and currently, they are not covered by insurance. EMDR intensives are out-of-pocket investments.

The intensive format means that I reserve a large chunk of time especially for you. A 50% non-refundable deposit is due at the time of booking to reserve your intensive time, and the full balance is due on the day of the intensive. A 7-day notice is required to cancel your intensive. If I receive less than a 7-day notice, you will remain responsible for the full cost of the intensive. I do my best to work with you to reschedule if needed when life happens and a cancellation is unavoidable.

Fees

Intensive sessions are scheduled for 90 minutes, 2, 3 or 4 hour increments.

Intensive packages start at $1500

  • A non-refundable deposit ($750) will be required on the day that you schedule your intensive package. The remainder of the balance ($600) is due on the first day of service for the intensive.
  • EMDR intensives are private pay due to insurance limitations. Insurance does not currently offer coverage for intensive therapy in an outpatient setting. However, many people can achieve better progress by intensely focusing on resolving their distress rather than meeting once or twice weekly to try to heal, making a therapy intensive more cost-effective in the long-term.
  • The rates are: 90 minutes-$350, 2 hours-$450, 3 hours-$700, 4 hours-$900.
